Welcome and opening of the Meeting
The director of our school, Prof.ssa Rossella Gianfagna, welcomed the participants to the Istituto d’Istruzione Secondaria Superiore ″L. Pilla”. Two videos were presented. Both of them were made by the students of our school; the first one was about our school and the second about the town of Campobasso. The participants were invited to present a brief report of the work carried out in the last months about the issues of our Erasmus+ Project. The students of each partner country were directly implied in the presentation.
Tour of the school
After the coffee break, the whole group of the participants was split into two parts: teachers and students for a tour of the school. They visited our Erasmus+ classroom, the school library, laboratories, our cineforum, and our gym.
In the Building Industry, Environment, and Territory Department there was the presentation of different activities. A project of our school, pertaining learning environments and the so called ‘deconstructed school environment’. Then the groups visited the ‘Aquarium space’, a room created by our students and set up like a sea bottom, using exclusively recycled materials. There was also the presentation of a work made by our students about the ‘rubbish art’, the creation of works of art using recycled material. Our students created some objects using recycled paper to create objects, like the frame that they offered as present to the partners.
The tour ended for the students in our IT lab, since they have been involved in a computer-based survey, created from our school at the beginning of our Erasmus+ project, in order to enquiry the common everyday habits about the use of energy, kind of food, consumption of resources, etc.
Meeting with a local institution of Molise Region
After lunch, we met the Local Action Group of our Region, called “Molise verso il 2000”, in the person of Mr. Adolfo Colagiovanni and his staff, for a training/learning activity. The topics were the Erasmus+ projects developed from the LAG, dealing with environment issues, in particular climate change and renewable resources. The names of the projects are ‘Climall’ and ‘C4ET – Citizen for Energy Transition’. After a presentation of the activity carried out from the LAG and its relevance in our territory, in particular the students were involved in interactive games, available on the websites created for the projects.

Visit to the ENEL hydroelectric plant in Presenzano – Isernia
The group reached Presenzano, a place in the district of Isernia, about 70 km far from Campobasso, where, during 1980s was built the second biggest hydroelectric plant in Europe, entitled to Domenico Cimarosa. Here we attended the presentation of the plant, its reservoirs (one upper and one lower with a different elevation of over 640 m.), and the system used to generate the energy produced from the four pump-turbines-generators. Notwithstanding this plant is located along the Volturno river, its environmental relevance is due to the fact that it does not waste any natural energy, reusing the same resource – the water of the upper Cesima reservoir – in a closed cycle process.
We also visited the highly technological electric panel which can oversee in remote other similar but smaller plants located in the south of Italy.
After lunch, our guests were taken to a guided visit to the Isernia Archeological Museum, were at the end of 1970s there was a remarkable discovery, due to the extraordinary number of finds recovered in that area. The Paleolithic encampment of Isernia can be considered as one of the most complete examples of early human settlement in the history of Europe.
Once the guests came back to Campobasso and reached the hotel, the students were involved in a leisure and educational activity (n. 1 – Hydroelectric energy: Presenzano), using the Kahoot platform, pertaining the training session carried out in the morning.

Visit to waste disposal facilities
The group reached Vinchiaturo, a village very close to Campobasso. Here we were welcomed from the Mayor of the small town, who presented the plan of the municipality in regards of waste management. In fact, since 2015 they have adopted a door-to-door waste collection. There is also an automated area in the village, to be used in extraordinary occasions or by the citizens who do not live in the village regularly. Then we visited the recycling point where all the waste of the village is collected and partially treated.
After Vinchiaturo, the group was guided to Montagano, a place not very far away from there, where there is the solid waste treatment plant used for the collection, storage, selection, recovery, treatment and disposal of waste arriving from the town of Campobasso and the neighbouring area.
The group ended its visit to the site, meeting the Deputy Mayor of Montagano, Ms. Francesca Primiano, by the City Hall, where a brief presentation of the local policy on the environment was held.
Visit to the City Hall
Our guests were welcomed by the Mayor of the City of Campobasso, Mr. Antonio Battista, who expressed the honour of hosting a representative of the European schools, carrying out their common activity about one the most relevant issues concerning any local and global context. His message to our Erasmus+ group was that dealing with topics like the environment and the reduction of consumption, becoming aware and trying to make a cleaner and healthy world, is a way to bring a message of peace.
In the afternoon the participants were guided through a tour in Campobasso following the street art. Our town has become a relevant site for this kind of art since writers and street artists who are worldwide famous have chosen our town to leave their masterpieces on the wall of buildings located in popular and declining area of the town.
Once the guests came back to the hotel, the students were involved in a leisure and educational activity (n. 2 – Recycling), using the Kahoot platform, pertaining the training session carried out in the morning.

Visit to our Professional Institute for Agriculture “L. Pilla”
The training and learning session started with a seminar help by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, entitled ‘Geothermal energy; what, where, how’. The topic has been particularly relevant for the issues of our Erasmus+ project, because this kind of energy is one of the less exploited renewable resources available in nature from all the European countries. The final part of the seminar was dedicated to a consideration about the surveys conducted in the countries where our partners come from, comparing the use of the geothermal energy in each national context.
The coffee break that the Institute for Agriculture offered to the guests was arranged using for the main part products made directly from the farm inside the school, like jam, fresh cheese, olive oil.
In the production process our students are regularly involved during their laboratory activities. In fact, the school is surrounded by a productive area where a vineyard, a vegetable garden, an orchard with a variety of fruit and ornamental trees are planted. There is also a greenhouse, where the winter cultivation and seeds grow.
After the coffee break, the participants have been divided into four groups and invited to four different activities and taking turn they have attended to them. The aim of the workshops is to learn how it can be possible to obtain natural food by a self-production process that respects the environment and gives us the opportunity to become aware of our territory.
There has been the planting of a pomegranate tree in the courtyard of the school; this kind of tree has a symbolic meaning for our group of partners, representing the cohesion and unity among people, like the seeds inside the fruit of this tree.
Another activity has been dedicated to the transformation of milk, using some curd, into a dairy product, a mozzarella freshly prepared and ready to be tasted.
A third activity has been the tasting of olive oil produced using the fruit of the olive grove of the school. The last activity has been dedicated to the decoding of the trees of our orchard. In fact, each plant has been coded and identified by a QR code, that can be read through a common device like a smartphone or a tablet.
Visit to University of Molise
After lunch, the group has taken part to an event organised by the University of Molise, “Agri_For_Food”, on the agri-environment biodiversity studies held by the Agriculture, Environment and Food Department.
The participants, divided into two groups, were guided through an exhibition of the lab activities and experiments held by the researchers of our University.
Once the guests came back to the hotel, the students were involved in a leisure and educational activity (n. 3 – Geothermal energy: what, where, how), using the Kahoot platform, pertaining the training session carried out in the morning.

Visit to the ENEL Wind Farm in Frosolone – Isernia
The group was guided to the most important wind farm in Molise, located in Frosolone, about 35 km far away from Campobasso.
Notwithstanding the adverse weather conditions, the participants had the possibility to visit in small groups the wind farm, entering in the tower of one of the wind turbines and be explained some technical details about its operation.
The participants visited the ancient Middle Age village of Frosolone, with its characteristic historic centre.
After lunch, back to Campobasso, teachers and students were left free for their leisure time in town. During the afternoon and before the final ceremony, the students were involved in a leisure and educational activity (n. 4 – Frosolone wind farm), using the Kahoot platform, pertaining the training session carried out in the morning.
Conclusion of the meeting
The coordinators of each country were involved in a meeting, in order to plan the final mobility to Lithuania and the last part of work remaining before the ending of the project.
Certificates of attendance
Before dinner, the ceremony of awarding the certificates of attendance to the delegation of each country took place. There was also the awarding to the group of students who got the top of the rank in the Kahoot challenge.
Then the 2nd transnational learning/training activity held at the Istituto d’Istruzione Secondaria Superiore “Leopoldo Pilla” in Campobasso was concluded.
